Popular Middle Earth character was spurned in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, now makes an appearance in Rings of Power

Tolkien’s legendary character, Tom Bombadil, will finally make his debut in The Lord of the Rings: The Power of the Rings.

Which character is it? The character Tom Bombadil has been left out of previous film adaptations of JRR Tolkien’s works, but now he makes an appearance in the second season of the Amazon series Rings of Power. This is well received by fans, as Tom Bombadil is one of the most fascinating characters in Middle Earth.

Tom Bombadil is played by Rory Kinnear – as revealed by Vanity Fair. He is particularly known for his role as Tanner in the James Bond films with Daniel Craig. He also played Frankenstein’s monster in the Penny Dreadful series.

Tom Bombadil is ancient and mysterious

Who is Tom Bombadil? He is one of the most enigmatic and oldest characters in Tolkien’s world. Tom was in Middle Earth before the elves. He is neither human nor hobbit, dwarf or elf. In any case, Tom Bombadil is so powerful that the One Ring has no effect on him. His appearance in the first book, The Fellowship of the Ring, is brief – but unforgettable.

Here you can take a first look (Vanity Fair on X) at him:

He saves Frodo, Sam, Merry and Pippin from danger in the Old Forest and takes them home with him – in the forest near the village of Buckland. He feels a deep connection to nature and animals. He prefers to stay in his own little kingdom with his wife Goldberry, where he sings happy songs. Is he a Maiar, a nature spirit or a powerful god? Who exactly he is remains a mystery.

What role will he play in Rings of Power? Tom Bombadil will have a new role in the series. He will have a second home next to the Old Forest and will travel to Rhûn. Rhûn was once a green land that has now become a barren wasteland. There he will investigate what happened to this land. It is also suggested that Tom Bombadil could meet the stranger, who may be Gandalf? The second season of Rings of Power is supposed to be dirtier and darker than the first.
