Here is City Gross’s new outlet – going to sell bargains

Swedish shrimp disappear from City Gross

The decision has been made to remove the Swedish shrimp from the assortment in all City Gross stores.

– It is a responsible decision. We have a clear policy to lean on, we must run a long-term sustainable business with a responsible, carefully selected assortment. We only sell fresh fish and shellfish from sustainable stocks, including MSC-labelled products. This means that we need to make tough decisions sometimes so that our customers in store can make simple decisions, says Anton Ekmanhead of sustainability at City Gross, in a press release and continues:

– We are proud of our Swedish range, of course this feels very sad to have to do – not least for our stores in the Gothenburg region where the Swedish shrimp is very popular. But we want generations to come to also have the opportunity to eat Swedish prawns.

Recently, it became clear that the Swedish shrimp, due to reduced stocks and unsustainable fishing, has lost its MSC label.

City Gross: “Hope for understanding”

In the future, we therefore only sell shrimp from stocks that are classified as sustainable, including from Norwegian Lyngenfjord.

– We obviously hope for a quick recovery of the Swedish shrimp, which is popular with our customers. We hope for the customers’ understanding of the situation – that together we contribute to a prosperous but also sustainable fishing industry – who will of course also be affected by the red listing, says Anton Ekman in the press release.
