Popular drive thru fundraiser returning to St Marys

Anyone driving through St. Marys next month won’t even have to get out of their car to support a popular fundraiser hosted by the Southwestern Ontario community’s fire department.

Anyone driving through St. Marys next month won’t even have to get out of their car to support a popular fundraiser hosted by the Southwestern Ontario community’s fire department.

After an “overwhelming success” last year, local firefighters announced Thursday they’ll once again be handing out drive-thru pork chop dinners in partnership with Joe’s Diner and Broken Rail Brewing on Sept. 10.

“Serving food is a far cry from the danger they face while responding to emergencies, but the St. Marys firefighters don’t mind the change of pace,” fire Chief Richard “Andy” Anderson said in a press release. “The fire department appreciates everyone’s support as we raise money for a fantastic cause.”

Joe’s Diner will be preparing a feast including smoked pork chops, baked potato, coleslaw, home-made baked beans and a bun. Each meal will be served with one can of locally brewed craft beer from Broken Rail.

The cost is $25 per meal and tickets can be purchased in advance from any firefighter, at the St. Marys Fire Hall, Joe’s Diner or Broken Rail Brewing. Dinners will be served between 4 pm and 7 pm in the parking lot behind Action Medical on Queen Street.

The event, which attracted about 600 hungry supporters last year, is a fundraiser for causes the fire department has supported for years, including muscular dystrophy research and support, local sports teams and other charities.

“This year, we anticipate tickets to sell out even quicker so don’t hesitate to get yours today,” Anderson said.
