The Premier League professional “Ponne” left the national team last year, but that has not made him any less relevant.
During the current defense crisis, Janne Andersson called and asked if he could revise his decision.
– When it was the same situation again, I think it is my duty to investigate with him based on the fact that he knows our way of playing and has been to so many gatherings before, Andersson said before the Norway match.
However, the door remains closed and for Sydsvenskan Jansson tells about how he experienced his time with the national team where there are some who chafe.
During the Nations League A group stage in the autumn of 2020, he played in both losing matches against Croatia (1-2) and Portugal (0-3). The aftermath disappointed him.
– I had to take almost all the shit for two bad internationals. Okay, I made a big mistake against Croatia that led to loss. Against Portugal then, everyone was clapping, but I was the one who had to be the face for it, says Jansson.
He develops:
– I had to stand there all by myself, they threw me out to the media. I have no problem taking criticism, but sometimes there must be a limit. To go out and meet the media five minutes after you have made two worse internationals and stand there all by yourself and get question after question and then do a press conference, then TV and repeat the same things over and over again. The national team could have done better, they probably would not have done so against all players.
Pontus Jansson says that he may not have really taken the chance when he got it but that much of the air went out when Janne Andersson persuaded Andreas Granqvist to stay after the WC 2018, even though he then played in the Superettan.
– If you had wanted to invest in me, you could have made it even clearer. Was it the right decision? (to persuade Granqvist) I do not know. But that’s where my doubt started, how much do they really want me? Because after the 2018 World Cup, I felt that now was the time for me, but it was not.
