PONFERRADINA La Ponferradina celebrates its centenary

La Ponferradina celebrates this June 7 its first 100 years of history, a centenary that he has been celebrating throughout the season but that today, the exact day of his birthday, concentrates a series of acts throughout the day in the stadium of The Toralinwhich presented its new façade coinciding with the celebration.

The events started with the presentation of the postage stamp and the commemorative postmark of the hundred years. The image of the blue and white centenary will thus be able to travel all over the world from the post office installed for this purpose in the stadium store. The president of the club, Jose Fernandez Nietorecognized that “although it is not used as much as before, it is beautiful and we have to feel proud to be able to circulate all over the world with our label”.

Later, the Bishop of AstorgaJesús Fernández, officiated a mass on the El Toralín playing field in which tribute was paid to the members of the club and fans who had died over these hundred years and a tribute was made to the Virgin of the Oakpatron saint of El Bierzo, whose image presided over the act.

To end the morning, José Fernández Nieto unveiled a commemorative plaque for the centenary at the zero gate of El Toralín accompanied by the staff of the season that has just ended and authorities such as the president of the León Provincial Council, Eduardo Morán, the one from the Regional Council del Bierzo, Gerardo Álvarez Courel, or the mayor of Ponferrada, Olegario Ramón.

The celebrations will continue in the afternoon with a giant ‘fan zone’ on the outskirts of the stadium and the release of balloons with prizes for those attending. Later, inside the stadium, the party will continue with the presentation of all the club’s teams, music and a light and sound show that will serve as the icing on the cake for Ponferradina’s hundredth birthday.
