Pollen: three natural remedies for seasonal allergies

Itchy and runny nose, red and watery eyes… Are you bothered by these symptoms every year? What if this year, you tried a natural treatment for your allergic rhinitis?

The allergic rhinitis or seasonal pollen allergy or hay fever is a pathology increasingly widespread. Indeed, because of global warming, certain geographical areas hitherto spared by pollen are now concerned. Moreover, the pollen season starts earlier and ends later. As a reminder, the symptoms return each year in the spring and include eyes itchy, red and watery, a nose stuffy, runny and itchy, sneezing… How to relieve these symptoms with natural remedies? With the essential oils ! Some of them contain molecules antihistamines. They can be used in preventive or curative treatmentin addition or not to a drug treatment, alone or in combination.

Roman chamomile or noble chamomile essential oil (Chamaemelum nobile)

It is the oil of first intention in the management of allergic rhinitis. Chamomile essential oil contains estersisobutyl and isoamyl angelates, with antihistamine properties, anti-inflammatories and antipruritic (it calms the itching). It is very well tolerated and can be used by all members of the family, including children from 3 years old and pregnant women from 2.and quarter of the pregnancy. On the other hand, it is quite expensive. This essential oil can be applied to the skin of the forearms by diluting one drop of essential oil in four drops of vegetable oil, three times a day, until the symptoms decrease.

Tarragon essential oil (Artemisia dracunculus)

Tarragon essential oil is also recommended in rhinitis allergic. Methylchavicol or estragole is the antiallergic molecule of the oil. Be careful however, this oil cannot be used in pregnant or breastfeeding women, or in children under 3 years old, except in diffusion atmospheric. It can be used alone:

  • orally, from 6 years old: one drop on half a sugar;
  • by cutaneous way, from 3 years: one drop diluted in four drops of vegetable oil in application on the solar plexus.

Annual tansy or blue chamomile essential oil (Tanacetum annuum)

Chamazulene is the active molecule of this oil. Very effective, the essential oil of annual tansy can also have significant side effects. It should not be used for prolonged periods without the advice of a doctor. It is prohibited for pregnant or breastfeeding women and for children under 6 years old. The cutaneous route is the only possible route of administration.

It can be applied to the skin of the forearms by diluting one drop of essential oil in four drops of vegetable oil, twice a day, for a maximum of 10 days.
