Poll Incumbent wins Croatian presidential election News in brief

According to the door-to-door poll, the sitting president of Croatia, the Social Democrats Zoran Milanovic would win the country’s presidential election already in the first round.

According to a door-to-door poll by the national TV channel HRT, he would collect more than half of the votes with around 51 percent of the vote.

His main opponent, Dragan Primorac of the conservative HDZ party, would get just over 19 percent of the vote.

The polling stations in Croatia closed today at eight in the evening Finnish time. The role of the president in Croatia is largely ceremonial.

A second round of elections will be held on January 12 if neither candidate wins a majority.
