The decision in Trelleborg’s municipal council on 19 December last year led to a storm of protest. This meant, among other things, that the chairman of the municipal board, the moderate Ann Kajson Carlqvist, would have her fee increased in two steps, from 71,500 per month to 125,000 kroner in 2024.
After demonstrations, email protests and appeals, the municipal council in Trelleborg revoked the decision on January 30. But then some fees had already been paid out.
“The decision was partially implemented by paying the fees on January 27,” says councilor Henrik Hedberg in a press release.
For that reason, the administrative court has examined the decision, even though it had already been annulled. According to the court, the decision was illegal because there was a tie. Now the municipality must test whether and how a correction can take place.
In February this year, the municipal council made a new decision on financial benefits for elected officials. That too has been appealed, but the court has not yet had time to examine this.
