One of the tasks of the transitional government of Mali is the organization of a constitutional referendum. But in the country, the draft Constitution is debated. The text is harshly criticized by a section of civil society and the political class. On Sunday, the Alliance for Democracy in Mali (Adéma) even officially asked to temporarily suspend the review process.
With our correspondent in the region, Serge Daniel
Adema asks the president of the transition, Colonel Assimi Goitato put the preliminary draft Constitution in the drawer and to obtain a broad consensus before another document. The text in its current version “ entails risks of tension, even deep division among Malians “, adds one of the main political parties in Mali.

Paréna, party for the national rebirth, had already recommended the abandonment of the project. He denounces in particular the new formulation of the article on the conditions to be met to be a candidate for the presidential election. The Parena also speaks of ” unnecessary stigmatization of expatriate Malians and their children “.
Malian politicians and personalities are also up against the text in its current version. Me Balla Cissé speaks, for example, of ” precipitation of a regime in too much of a hurry to stay in power “. For his part, another lawyer, Me Mamadou Ismaïla Konaté wonders: ” In the preliminary draft, it is said that the President of the Republic determines the policy of the nation, but what if he does not have a majority in the Assembly? ». The lawyer therefore also requests a more consensual text.
