A US congressman was audibly annoyed during a vote on Wednesday. When it was his turn to cast his vote for speaker of the house, he called out “Hakeeeeem Jeffries,” in honor of the World of Warcraft meme “Leeroy Jenkis.”
This was the scene:
This is what he says about it: The 58-year-old Huffman tweeted: “Yup, I said what I said. With Republicans chasing us down through repeated self-flagellation, at least we can make it memorable.”
Disagreement of a party leads to endless votes
What does he mean by “self-flagellation?” The voting for the “House of Speaker” is dragging on in the USA. The Republicans actually have a numerical majority, but the party is so divided that they are unable to get their preferred candidate McCarthy through with party votes because not all lawmakers vote for him. Some Trump supporters are against him.
As a result, the Republicans are about a dozen votes short of their nominee, but they keep running him anyway, hoping he’ll get through by getting votes from the Democrats. But they don’t even think about voting for him.
This procedure seems to annoy Huffmann over time when he speaks of “self-flagellation”.
Leeroy Jenkins is the origin of one of the most famous WoW memes
What is it with Leeroy Jenkins? This is a legendary meme from the early days of WoW. It is now known that the situation was meant to be ironic at the time and was intended to embody a contrast between “overly cautious mental players” and “pure emotional players who gamble for pure fun”:
