The election campaign has so far been heated and verbally violent, and now a fight between two political opponents has ended in a fatality. A supporter of President Jair Bolsonaro used an ax to kill a supporter of left-wing politician Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
The 42-year-old victim had discussed the election with the perpetrator, a 24-year-old, in the city of Confresa in the state of Mato Grosso.
The discussion turned into a fight before the 42-year-old drew a knife, which his opponent took from him and began chasing his antagonist.
When the perpetrator caught up with his victim, he also got hold of an axe, with which he stabbed the victim 15 times, according to the police.
The first round of elections will be held on 2 October, the second on 30 October.
