The results of the first round of the presidential election held in the Balkan country Romania were annulled by a court decision. In the statement, it was noted that a new planning should be made for the presidential election.
THE ANTI-NATO AND ANTI-WEST CANDIDATE WILL FACE THE CENTER-RIGHT CANDIDATE
While the second round of the presidential election was planned for December 8, it was expected that the anti-NATO and anti-Western independent candidate Calin Georgescu and Elena Lasconi from the centre-right Save the Romanian Union Party would face each other.
Meanwhile, it was also stated that Romanian voters living abroad have started voting for the second round, which is planned to be held on Sunday.
THE INTERVENTION OF ‘FOREIGN POWERS’ AFFECTED THE DECISION
Reports in the local media state that the documents published in the first round indicating the involvement of “foreign powers” affected the court’s annulment decision.
In the news based on files declassified by the Intelligence Service in Romania, it was stated that Georgescu, who ran his election campaign through the TikTok social media account, received online support from foreign and influential people, and it was implied that Russia was trying to influence the elections.
In the first round of the presidential election in Romania, Georgescu received 22.95 percent of the votes and Lasconi received 19.17 percent and advanced to the second round.
