Women are vulnerable
Over the past 24 hours, the number of pensioners exposed to fraud has increased. More specifically, it is women over 90 who live alone who have been exposed.
The frauds have been carried out in a similar way. They start with someone calling and claiming to be from the home service, a handyman, bank or authority. Then they tell you that something has happened that requires a home visit.
– It often starts with wanting to scare the victim. Something has happened that requires action. It could be that there have been many break-ins or that you have been the victim of a fraud attempt. Then the person says that there is no danger and that the person should get help. But the real intention is exactly the opposite, says the police spokesperson Jens Andersson to The Gothenburg Post.
The victims have then been robbed of cash, jewelry, valuables or credit cards, the newspaper reports.

The police have issued a warning to the public in Västra Götaland and Halland.
“If you are contacted by someone who claims that something has happened that requires you to hand over valuables or log into your bank: Hang up and contact the police,” the police write on their homepage.
– I want to stress the importance of quickly contacting the police. Unfortunately, these crimes are surrounded by a lot of shame. But time is a factor and the sooner the better. Even if you have just hung up, you must contact us. Attempted offenses must also be charged. And if we find out quickly, we might even be able to catch them red-handed, says Andersson to the newspaper.
