In late summer, it is common to go out into the forest to pick blueberries, cloudberries and forest gold – chanterelles. This year, the findings have appeared earlier than usual.
It happens that people who go out into the forest do not return home. It may be because you got lost, suffered from an illness or were involved in an accident.
That is why the Police in Västernorrland are now issuing a warning to you who are planning to go out into the woods.
“Every year, people are reported missing in connection with being out in the forest, for example to pick berries and mushrooms. The police are responsible for investigating missing people if there are concerns that their life or health is in serious danger,” writes they in a post on Facebook.
Do this before going out into the woods
In order not to get lost in the forest, it is important to be well prepared before you head out. The police urge you to bring a charged mobile phone, water and something to eat, a whistle and colorful clothes so you can be seen.
You should preferably not go out into the forest alone. But if you still decide to go alone, tell someone where you plan to go and when you expect to be back.
Last but not least, the police recommend that you download the 112 app. It’s an app where the police can see your location and find you more easily if you’re lost or have an accident.

If an accident happens
If you should get lost, suffer an illness or some other accident, you must call 112 and your next of kin as soon as possible. If possible, stop in an elevated or open place where you can be seen well.
