Police warn of burglary in the estate

Since November last year, the police have been alerted about a number of burglaries in the estate in the regions. Especially Södermanland should be affected, but also Jönköping and its surroundings, the police write on its website.

– What we can see is that the connection is that it is precisely the death estate that you have focused on. We work across the regional boundaries to move forward in the investigations, because we see that it could be the same perpetrators. It is about the same approach, but we cannot say that it is the same people or a league who does this, says Helena Wahlund, analyst at the regional crime coordination in the East region in a statement.

Looking for empty homes

It is in connection with the death of a person and the homes have been empty pending sales that the thieves struck. The crime itself is therefore difficult for the police to frame.

– The crime time can be between two days and up to two weeks, which gives a worse opportunity to investigate the crime. Since the houses are often completely empty and relatives, for example, have no case there when the relative is gone, it is not certain it is discovered immediately when it has happened. Often it is a craftsman who discovers it in connection with any renovation to be done, or a relative who for some reason visits the house, says Helena Wahlund.

Tip: Move cars and lit lamps

The tip for protecting itself is therefore to try to make the estate look inhabited.

– You can move cars, lit lamps and make tracks in the snow for example, says Helena Wahlund.

In addition, she urges relatives of the deceased to inform in the neighborhood that the house will be empty for some time.

– In this way, neighbors can also be helped and see if there is any strange activity around the houses. It is also important to move any valuables from the house.
