So far, the victims have been vigilant and have not gotten rid of any money, according to the police, who are now going out and warning about the approach.

– This is very ugly. Both when it comes to targeting elderly plaintiffs, but also to use healthcare as a way to get close to people, says Joakim Wallberg, inspector at the crime coordination police region East.

Nine cases

In total, there are nine cases, where elderly people are said to have been called by people pretending to be doctors, during the period at the end of November.

– It is mainly people who pretend to be doctors from the hospital in Linköping. We expect that there will be more and that this will continue, says Joakim Wallberg.

Wanted to make a home visit

The bookings that the fraudsters urged the elderly to make have been about examinations such as x-rays. In one of the cases, the caller also wanted to come to the elderly person’s home.

It is important to never give out any information during this type of conversation, says Joakim Wallberg.

– Hospitals and authorities do not call up in this way and ask people to log in to their bank ID.

What do you urge those affected to do?

– Do not give out any information. If you are unsure, make a check call to the hospital and then call a number that you have looked up yourself, says Joakim Wallberg.
