Three robbery suspects surrendered to police early Tuesday morning after being accused of stealing a woman’s purse before assaulting her inside a Stratford home.

Police began their investigation after officers were flagged down shortly before 2 am by a woman who had suffered visible injuries to her head and face. The woman had allegedly been dragged inside a Cawston Street home by three people who demanded her hand over her belongings, including her purse, money and identification.

The woman was then reportedly assaulted while her belongings were forcibly taken. The woman reportedly tried to call police on her cellphone before her dive was taken and smashed. A suspect allegedly threatened to shoot the woman while showing her what appeared to be a handgun, police said.
The woman was later pushed from the home, allowing her to escape and flag down the patrolling officers, police said.

Members of the Stratford Police Service’s emergency response unit arrived at the Cawston Street home and reportedly made contact with three suspects. Shortly before 8 am, the accused surrendered to police and were arrested before being taken to police headquarters.
A search of the home later than morning reportedly resulted in the seizure of four replica pellet guns, a “.38 Special” bullet, brass knuckles, bear spray, a bag containing more than a gram of suspected methamphetamine and $240 in suspected counterfeit currency.
The woman’s property was reportedly found and returned, police said.
The three accused have jointly been charged with forcible confinement, assault, assault with a weapon, robbery with a firearm, careless storage of ammunition, drug possessions, possession of counterfeit money and two counts of unauthorized possession of a weapon.
One of the accused was additionally charged with numerous firearms offenses, including possession contrary to a propitiation order stemming from previous related convictions, police said.
All three accused were held in custody pending their bail hearings.
