The incident occurred last spring. The man was sitting on the toilet at a police station in northern Sweden and was “fiddling” with his service pistol, he says himself in questioning.
Examining the gun’s weapon light, he reached for the trigger and fired a shot that went through the toilet wall, past a shower stall and through a door frame before finally lodged in the wall of a dressing room.
The weapon was later inspected without complaint.
The police were suspected of causing danger to others and came under the scrutiny of the Special Prosecutor’s Chamber.
The preliminary investigation was later closed, but then the police region itself took over the investigation.
They have now concluded that the man was negligent and disregarded his obligations and are therefore reporting him to the personnel responsibility board, reports the news agency Siren.
The police believe that the penalty should be a salary deduction, the report states.
