Police seek witnesses in Wheatley robbery

Chatham-Kent police are seeking the public’s assistance in solving an early morning robbery Saturday in Wheatley.

Between 1:30 am and 2 am, the incident occurred on Erie Street South, just south of Talbot Road East.

It was reported that approximately 15 people witnessed the occurrence, police said. The suspect, who is still at large, was seen wearing a bright orange construction coat.

This is believed to be an isolated incident and there is no concern for public safety, police added.

Suspended driver facing impaired charge

Early Saturday, a 21-year-old man was observed operating a motor vehicle in Chatham with two flat tires and extensive body damage.

The driver was stopped and believed to be intoxicated by alcohol. The man was transported to police headquarters, where he provided breath samples in excess of double the legal limit of 80mg/100ml, police said.

The man was also found to have a suspended driver’s license as a result of a stunt driving conviction.

His vehicle was impounded for 45 days. He was released with a short date.

A 20-year-old woman was arrested while operating a vehicle in Blenheim early Saturday.

She was arrested for impaired driving and taken to headquarters for further tests. The woman provided breath samples in excess of double the legal limit of 80mg/100ml, police said.

Her vehicle was impounded and she was released with a short date.

Holiday season safety

Police are urging the public to be vigilant, with criminals looking for opportunities.

“The holiday season is upon us, and more people will be out and about collecting gifts,” police said. “We would like to remind citizens that a vehicle with an unlocked door or open window is an easy target.”
