Police raids on gay clubs in Moscow

Under the pretext of a drug raid, police searched locations across the Russian capital, including a nightclub, a men’s sauna and a bar that hosts htbq parties, Russian media reported.

At one of the clubs in central Moscow, a party was going on with 300 participants. Eyewitnesses say that the music suddenly stopped when the police started to enter the room. At the exit, the police officers must have photographed the participants’ identification documents.

– I was honestly scared shitless, says a witness to the news channel Ostorozjno novosti.

Earlier this week, Russia’s Supreme Court labeled the LGBTQ movement as extremist and banned it from operating in the country. After the decision, a gay club in the city of Saint Petersburg has announced that the business is closing down. The club writes on social media that the landlord refused to continue renting the premises due to the law.
