An elderly person from West Lorne was killed in a crash in Southwold Township, southwest of St. Thomas, police say.

Ontario Provincial Police on Monday said it was shortly after 11 am on Sept. 6, last Friday, when OPP officers, Elgin-St. Thomas paramedics and Southwold and Central Elgin firefighters were called to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Fingal Line and Mill Road, a rural intersection southwest of St. Thomas.
Both drivers involved in the crash were taken to hospital, police said. One, an 89-year-old from West Lorne, was pronounced dead at hospital. Police did not make public the person’s name.
The other driver, a 24-year-old from St. Thomas, suffered only minor injuries, police said.

Londoner charged after wrong-way 401 driver spotted
A London man is charged with impaired driving after police say a vehicle was spotted heading the wrong direction on Highway 401.
Ontario Provincial Police say they received several calls at about 3 am on Saturday about a vehicle driving west in the eastbound lanes of the 401 near Orford Road in Chatham-Kent. Police say they were then told the vehicle had begun driving in the correct direction.
It was shortly after 3:30 am when police stopped the vehicle near Graham Road in West Elgin, police said.
The driver showed signs of intoxication and was taken into custody by Elgin OPP officers for further testing, police said. After an investigation, a 36-year-old London man is charged with two counts related to drunk driving.
The driver was hit with a 90-day license suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment, police said.
