Police on 24-year-old mass murderer: “High-achieving student”

The 24-year-old who is suspected of the mass shooting in Prague is said to have written about his assassination plans in a “diary”, Czech media reports.

The 24-year-old mass murderer, David Kozak, was a “high-achieving student” at Charles University in the Czech capital, Prague, according to police.

– I have no knowledge of the motive yet. It was a high-achieving student who was inspired by another terrible act elsewhere in the world, said Martin Vondra Sek, chief of police in Prague during a press conference.

On a locked Telegram account, the mass murderer is said to have written a “diary” about the crime, which he planned since the beginning of December, Czech media reports.

Among other things, he is said to have written that he “always wanted to kill”, in the Telegram office that he unlocked just before he went on the attack.

The mass murderer is said to have also expressed that he was inspired by other similar acts, above all an act in Kazan in Russia where a 19-year-old shot dead nine students. But also another crime that occurred as recently as two weeks ago where a 14-year-old shot dead a schoolmate and then ended his life.

Deadliest attack in the country

The 24-year-old killed 14 people and injured 25 at the University of Prague before, according to eyewitnesses, he shot himself. It is the deadliest attack in the Czech Republic since the country became its own nation in 1993.

The perpetrator’s father was also found dead in the morning in a small town outside the capital. The police suspect the 24-year-old of the murder.

Linked to a third attack

In addition to the attack on the university and the suspected murder of the father, there is a third crime that the police suspect may be connected to the 24-year-old, according to unconfirmed reports in the Czech media.
