POLICE: Norfolk OPP investigating suspicious fire in Simcoe

Police are investigating after what they are calling a suspicious house fire on Tuesday near Turkey Point.

Norfolk OPP and the Norfolk County Fire Department were called to the fire on Turkey Point Road at about 11:30 p.m.

Police say the residence was unoccupied at the time and no injuries were reported.

The Norfolk County OPP Crime Unit is conducting an investigation in conjunction with the Office of the Fire Marshal.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the police at 1-888-310-1122. Residents in the area are also requested to review their home surveillance systems for any footage related to the fire.

Two face charges after driver crashes stolen car in field

Two suspects have been charged after police say a driver crashed a stolen vehicle in a field in Norfolk County.

Norfolk OPP, the West Region OPP Emergency Response Team and the West Region OPP Canine Unit responded to a single-vehicle collision on Concession 2 Townsend at about 7:15 pm on Tuesday.

Police say a sedan, confirmed to have been stolen from a home in Brantford, reportedly taken off the road into a field. One of the occupants ran away.

A passenger in the vehicle was taken into custody and then taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Officers found and arrested the second suspect a short distance from the collision site. During the arrest, police say an officer was physically assaulted, though no injuries were reported. This suspect was also taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

A 28-year-old Burlington resident is charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

A 49-year-old Norfolk County resident is charged with assaulting a peace officer; uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm (three counts); fail to comply with probation order; and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

Norfolk County resident charged with assaulting police officer

A 26-year-old Norfolk County woman has been charged with assaulting a police officer.

At about 8:45 pm on Oct. 27, Norfolk OPP were called about an unwanted person on Norfolk Street North in Simcoe.

Police say an “interaction” occurred and an officer was physically assaulted. No injuries were reported.
