Police nab suspected copper wire thieves

Two Brantford residents have been charged with stealing copper wire after a Good Samaritan called police Sunday.

Police responded to the call and found a break and enter in progress at a business on Old Onondaga Road West in Brant County.

A witness had seen two people stealing copper wire and leaving the area.

Officers from the Brantford Police Service were able to locate the suspects and they were turned over to Brant OPP.

A 35-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman have each been charged with theft under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, breaking and entering, possession of break-in instruments.

In addition, the man faces a charge of failing to comply with an undertaking.

The two were released from police custody and are scheduled to appear in Brantford’s Ontario Court of Justice later.
