A male had knocked and said he needed help with an emergency, police said.

When the door opened, the suspect held a knife to the woman’s stomach and demanded her prescription medication, which the woman provided, police said.

She was uninjured and the suspect fled on foot, police said.

Police said the suspect is described as white, about 5’11” tall, with a slim build. The suspect was wearing a black jacket, dark boots, and has medium-length, brown hair, police said.

Anyone with information or security footage is asked to contact police at 519-344-8861 or Crime Stoppers at 519-332-8477.

Police said people should consider not opening the door and calling police immediately if they’re worried; using a peephole or door viewer to check who is outside before opening up; installing a door chain or latch to partially open the door while still maintaining security; installing a digital peephole camera with a wider field of view and that potentially records visitors; and using an intercom system, if it’s available, before granting people access.
