Police injured in Jönköping – suspected swordsman previously convicted

On Sunday, a police officer was fatally injured after an intervention against a 35-year-old man. The police patrol was called to the scene because people called about a man who was loud and behaving “upset”.

At a forest area in Österängen, Jönköping, the 35-year-old man attacked one of the police officers with a sword-like object, according to information given to TV4 Nyheterna.

In the commotion that ensued, the other officer drew his service weapon and was able to incapacitate the attacking man.

Has a history of violence

When TV4 Nyheterna investigated the background of the attacking man, it turns out that it is not the first time he has threatened an official.

In 2020, he was convicted of threatening an official and violent resistance. On that occasion, he had entered a shop and talked about black magic, evil energies and witches. The staff perceived him as unpleasant and called the security guards – after which a “tumultuous” handling took place.

The 35-year-old man shouted that he was going to kill or beat them to death and that they would no longer exist, the verdict states. He said the security guards were possessed, and kicked and fought around him.

At the time of the sentence, he had not been previously punished and the penalty was a daily fine.

Wrote about conspiracy theories

The man has previously been active on a conspiracy forum where he wrote about “chemtrails” and how vaccines are a method to control the population and make it susceptible.

He has also been involved in an LVU case where the parents were opposed to vaccines and because of that did not want to take their son to health care check-ups.

After Sunday’s chaotic intervention, the police have started a preliminary investigation into attempted murder and serious weapons offences.

The police officer in his 30s who was seriously injured underwent emergency surgery and remains in intensive care, according to the latest update at 1pm on Monday.
