A former passport officer at the Police Authority is charged with serious falsification of documents after issuing seven fake passports.
– It is very serious if trust in Swedish passports is damaged, says chief prosecutor Nicklas Englund at the Special Prosecutor’s Chamber.
Last summer, seven fake passports were issued at the Police Authority in Norrköping. The passport must have been used by an unknown person when entering Düsseldorf, Germany, from a country outside the EU.
Now a former passport officer is being prosecuted for gross falsification of records, false certification and data breach.
– It is not at all good that a fake Swedish passport of the highest quality has been produced with the police’s own equipment, says chief prosecutor Nicklas Englund in a press release.
“Very serious”
Two more people, who are not police employees, are also charged with serious falsification of documents in the form of assisting in the production of the passports.
According to the prosecutor, the crimes must be considered serious because the acts took place at the police’s passport office with serious abuse of position. In addition, this could mean a loss of trust for Swedish passports and the state vis-à-vis other EU members, among others.
