Police fired with New Year’s rockets – messy night in several places in Sweden

In Helsingborg, a policeman has been hit in the face by a rocket. A boy, born in 2007, is suspected of serious assault and was taken home to his guardians.

In the main square in Ljungby, another policeman was fired upon with a rocket during the night. The police officer in question was not injured, but one person was reportedly removed from the scene. A report of violence against an official has been made.

– It was intentional. It is still relatively unusual for a police officer to be fired upon with rockets, says Patric Fors, press spokesperson in the police region south to SVT.

A total of 35 cases of assault have been reported in the entire police region south. A relatively normal New Year’s Eve, according to the police, who were busy.

Three taken to hospital after fireworks injuries

At least three teenagers have also been taken to hospital after being injured by fireworks during the night. One of the injured is a 14-year-old boy who was seriously injured shortly after the stroke of twelve in Södertälje.

Another young boy in his early teens suffered an eye injury when he was hit by a piece of fireworks in Gothenburg. In both cases, the police have filed a report of causing bodily harm.

A third boy, who is also under 15, has been hit in the neck by fireworks in Hörby. The police have drawn up a report of assault.

Police directed lit fireworks

In Östergötland County, the police have handled just under 200 cases. Of these, about 40 are related to fireworks and firecrackers. No serious injuries or fires have been caused.

Shortly after midnight, rockets are fired in central Linköping. A person then inappropriately aims a rocket and a patrolling policeman decides to redirect the ignited piece – which then detonates. The police are not seriously injured, but the person who ignited the play is taken into custody.

Woman shot green laser at crowd

Shortly before 04:00 in the morning, the police come across a woman in Varberg who shot at a crowd at Societetsparken with a green laser. A report is written about a violation of the Radiation Protection Act and attempted assault.

In Växjö, a 75-year-old man threatened several people with a weapon-like object when they shot rockets, writes the police on their website. No one is physically injured, but a woman is shocked by the incident and taken to hospital for a check-up. The man is arrested on suspicion of gross illegal threats and violation of the Weapons Act
