Police: Driver charged after rollover collision on Highway 403

A 19-year-old Mississauga driver was charged with careless driving following a two-vehicle collision Monday afternoon on Highway 403.

Brant County OPP, EMS, fire services and Ministry of Transportation personnel responded just before 3:30 pm to the scene in the eastbound lanes, west of Paris.

Police say one of the vehicles rolled several times before coming to rest in the ditch on the south side of the highway, with one occupant taken to hospital for injuries that are not considered to be life-threatening.

The highway was closed between Middle Townline and Rest Acres Roads for the safety of responders, but reopened just prior to 7 pm

“The Brant County OPP would like to remind all drivers to prioritize safety on the roads,” said Const. Jonathan Bueckert. “Careful and attentive driving can prevent incidents like this from occurring.”

Oxford residents defrauded of $240K

Oxford County OPP are investigating two incidents of fraud that occurred on Monday.

Police say a Zorra Township resident was defrauded of more than $200,000 involving bitcoin, while later the same day a Tillsonburg resident was out about $40,000 through a fraud involving Apple Pay cards.

Investigators say the two incidents are not connected but both involved victims being communicated with over social media platforms and asked to make payment through gift cards or bitcoin.

Police remind citizens that legitimate businesses and government agencies will not request payment via those means.

Stolen vehicles

Norfolk OPP hope the public can help locate two stolen pickup trucks and identify those responsible for the thefts.

Police were called at 6:30 am Monday to investigate the overnight theft of a gray 2000 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck from a property on Adams Avenue in Delhi.

Later the same day, police investigated the theft of a silver 2000 Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck taken from a Main Street property in Delhi between 4 am and 7:15 pm

The investigation is ongoing, and police ask that anyone with relevant information call Norfolk County OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

Three charged in break and enter

Three people have been charged as the result of a break-and-enter investigation in Simcoe.
Norfolk County OPP responded to a Norfolk Street South address just before 5:30 pm on Monday where the suspects had gained entry to a business.

Officers took the three individuals into custody and seized a quantity of fentanyl, ecstasy, morphine, and Canadian currency.

A 47-year-old Norfolk County man is being held in custody and has been charged with break, entering a place – committing unspeakable offense; possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid (other than heroin); possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime – under $5,000; and fail to comply with a probation order.

A 45-year-old Six Nations man is charged with breaking, entering a place – committing unspeakable offense, and possession of a Schedule 1 substance – other drugs.

A 36-year-old Haldimand County resident faces charges of breaking, entering a place – committing unspeakable offense, and possession of a Schedule 1 substance – opioid (other than heroin), and possession of a Schedule 1 substance – methylenedioxyamphetamine (ecstasy).

Attempted break-in

Police are seeking the public’s help to identify those responsible for an attempted break-and-enter in Scotland.

Norfolk County OPP were called just after 2:30 pm on Monday to a Windham Road 2, Scotland address where overnight, someone tried to forcibly gain entry to a workshop.

The exterior of the building was damaged as a result of the incident.

Police encourage residents to secure sheds, workshops, and garages with sturdy locks. Consider installing a home surveillance system to monitor your property for activity, that also acts as a visible deterrent and report suspicious activity to police immediately.
