Since model year 2021, Volvo has limited the top speed of its cars to 180 km/h.
The reason is a step in the brand’s zero vision, which states that “no one should be killed or injured”.
However, there is nothing that has significantly affected the brand’s cars on the Swedish market, as the highest prevailing speed limit is 120 km/h.

Quick jerks
Although there are speeders out there, it is not very common for cars to be driven at speeds over 180 km/h on Swedish roads.
In Germany it is all the more common, but there those who frequent the outer lane of the autobahn simply have to turn to German cars. Or they can buy an old abandoned Swedish police car.
It is the case that Volvo’s limitation of the top speed does not include their special vehicles, i.e. police cars and other emergency vehicles.

Full throttle
Here, the top speed is instead limited to 250 km/h, depending on the version.
In the case of the Volvo V90 Cross Country T6, which pumps out 310 horsepower in police gear, the top speed is 230 km/h, instead of 180 km/h.
A Volvo V90 D5 has a top speed of 240 km/h, while 250 km/h is only achieved by the top model V90 T6.
In other words, a Volvo V90 police is up to 70 km/h faster than a civilian V90.

Other benefits
In addition to a markedly higher top speed, police cars from Volvo differ a lot from ordinary cars.
Among them, the cars are equipped with a reinforced police chassis, armored doors, weapon lockers, radar equipment, exterior and interior surveillance cameras and crash-tested cargo compartment interior among a number of other options.
