Multiple police cruisers were parked on Lasalle Line west of Marthaville Road shortly after 3 pm Tuesday while multiple people collected items from a white Jeep resting in the snow.
A Lambton OPP spokesperson said a 36-year-old Enniskillen Township resident was charged.
IMPAIRED DRIVER RESCUED FROM FLIPPED BACKHOE
A Plympton-Wyoming resident in their 80s was charged with impaired driving after provincial police say a heavy-machinery operator rescued from an overturned backhoe in a deep ditch was over the legal limit.
The incident took place around 7 pm Sunday on Michigan Line in Plympton-Wyoming, where the large vehicle plummeted from a laneway culvert into the ditch. Officers arrived and pulled the driver from the overturned cab.
“Upon speaking with the driver, it became apparent the driver had consumed an alcoholic beverage,” Lambton OPP alleged in a statement.
A suspect failed a roadside test and was arrested, but was taken to hospital as a precaution due to the crash.
Alex Kulak, 83, has been charged with impaired driving and failing or refusing to comply with a breath demand and will be in court on March 7.
TIPS WANTED AFTER FAIL TO REMAIN
Sarnia police are asking for tips after they say a pickup truck fled following a collision last week in the area of London Road and Christina Street North.
Police released photos of a dark-grey or black Ford F-150 and a suspect linked to the crash this past Thursday in the city’s west end.

“He is described as being short and small in stature. The truck has a metal rack along the exterior of the back window,” police said.

IMPAIRED DRIVER ZAPS HYDRO POLE
A Point Edward man in his 50s is facing an impaired-driving charge as Sarnia police say a motorist fled after a vehicle smashed into a hydro pole near the city’s courthouse and snapped it in half.
The incident took place around 4:40 am Sunday in the area of Errol Road West and Christina Street North. Officers found a vehicle with a “significant” amount of front-end damage but no driver, police said.
They “immediately” learned who the owner was and went to their house, police said.
A suspect there didn’t appear injured but was arrested for impaired driving and taken to headquarters for testing. Results allegedly showed he was more than twice the legal limit, police said.
Gordon Kenneth Yates, 52, from Point Edward is facing two impaired-driving-related charges and will be in court on Feb. 22.
MONDAY’S FIRE NOW SUSPICIOUS
Sarnia police say Monday’s early-morning fire is now considered suspicious.
Police, firefighters and paramedics were sent to a blaze in the 200 block of London Road, between College Avenue North and Mitton Street North, around 2 am Everyone inside escaped and there were no serious injuries while the majority of the fire damage took place outside the house.

“At this time, it is believed that the fire is suspicious in nature and officers from the Sarnia Police Service criminal investigation branch have opened an investigation into the matter,” police said.

Sarnia fire officials previously said they believed it was intentionally set. The damage was valued at between $200,000 and $250,000.

SLEDGE HAMMER-WIELDING SUSPECT ARRESTED
A suspect Sarnia police initially said appeared to be carrying a sledge hammer while stealing a high-end bicycle from a parking garage has been arrested, but the tool is now believed to be a splitting maul.
Police issued photos of the suspect following the Jan. 16 incident underneath an unidentified apartment complex.
“Thanks to the security images, the suspect was identified,” police said.
An officer on general patrol saw the suspect in the Afton Drive area around 8 am Saturday. The suspect ran, but the officer caught and arrested him.
Curtis Edward McBean, 32, of no local fixed address was charged with one count of break and enter, two counts of mischief worth less than $5,000, and one count of theft worth less than $5,000. He was also wanted on an outstanding warrant for break and enter, mischief worth less than $5,000, and breach of probation linked to another incident, police said.
McBean will be in court on March 8.
