Police warn of scam

Stratford Police Services received several calls from residents last week about a suspected Princess Margaret Hospital lottery scam.

According to SPS, the victims were telephoned by a male who claimed to be associated with the library. They were informed they had won $2.9 million and a Dodge Ram pick-up truck. The caller then told them he would come to their homes and that they should have a prepaid Visa card ready to provide him in order to receive their winnings.

None of the victims provided any information or the prepaid Visa card. It is suspected that the caller used a phone book to obtain the phone number and addresses of the residents. Police are asking any residents who received similar calls and lost any money to contact 519-271-4141 extension 2 to file a report.
