Resident confronts unknown man in garage

Norfolk OPP have charged a 38-year-old man with break and enter following an Oct. 21 incident at a Freeman Crescent address in Simcoe.

Police say the homeowner confronted a man trying to remove objects from a garage on the property. The suspect fled and police were called.

Norfolk OPP officers went to the area and were able to locate the suspect and take him into custody without incident.

The man has also been charged with breach of probation.

Driver was over limit: Police

A 47-year-old Norfolk County man has been charged with drinking and driving offenses following an Oct. 22 incident.

Provincial police were dispatched to Norfolk Street South in Simcoe at about 2:30 am after a citizen called to report an impaired driver.

Norfolk OPP located the vehicle and subsequently charged a man with impaired driving and driving with more than the legal limit of alcohol in his blood. The legal limit for Ontario drivers is 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 milliliters of blood.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Good Samaritan that contacted police and reported this incident,” Insp. Jodi Kays, detachment commander Norfolk County OPP said. “As a direct result of their phone call, officers were able to safely stop the vehicle and take the driver into custody without incident.”

Driver faces impaired charge

A 68-year-old Norfolk County man has been charged with driving with more than the legal limit of alcohol in his blood.

The man was charged after Norfolk OPP stopped a vehicle at Smiths Mill Road, Townsend address just after midnight on Oct. 22. The driver was taken into custody without incident, police said.

Break and enter in Simcoe

Norfolk OPP are asking for public assistance following a break-in to a new home on Judd Drive in Simcoe.

Officers were called to the address at about 8 am Monday (Oct. 24) and discovered copper piping had been removed from the home. While inside the new residence, the culprits lit a fire in the basement causing damage to the plastic piping and shower stall.

Anyone with information is asked to call Norfolk OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Those who wish to remain anonymous are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or leave a message at the tip link at www.helpsolvecrime.com where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.

Lawn, driveway damaged

A lawn and gravel driveway at a 13th Concession Road, North Walsingham address were badly damaged by all-terrain vehicles, Norfolk OPP say.

Provincial police were called to the address just before 9 am Monday.

It is believed that the damage was caused during the early morning hours of Oct. 22 ( Monday).

Norfolk OPP is asking anyone in the surrounding area with security surveillance video to contact them at 1-888-310-1122.

Prohibited driver

A 50-year-old Norfolk County man has been charged with driving offenses after provincial police responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle.

Norfolk OPP were called by a resident at a Charlotteville Road address at about 11:54 pm Oct. 21 (Friday).

Upon arrival, officers found the vehicle and took the driver into custody without incident. Police have charged him with operating a vehicle while prohibited, driving while under suspension and operating an unsafe vehicle.
