Driver charged after dispute with construction crew

Norfolk OPP were called to a traffic complaint on St. Andrew Street in Port Dover at about 6:45 pm Wednesday, August 24.

Police say a motorist and road construction workers became involved in an incident when the driver refused to follow the directions of the road crew.

Officers located the vehicle on Market Street East and took the 31-year-old Hamilton man into custody for failing or refusing to comply with a demand, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and causing a disturbance.

Jewelry stolen from residence

A 30-year-old Norfolk resident has been charged with theft over $5,000 and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.

Norfolk OPP say that about $7,300 worth of jewelry was stolen from a St. Andrew Street home in Port Dover between August 14 and 23.

The accused has been held in custody.

Mailbox stolen

A mailbox was reported stolen from a Highway 59, North Walsingham address in Norfolk County on Thursday morning.

Norfolk OPP say the decorative, black plastic mailbox valued at $150 was unscrewed and removed from its location at the end of a driveway.

Police remind residents to call police if they see any suspicious activity, adding that anyone committing acts of mischief will be charged.

A large quantity of US and Canadian currency was stolen during a break and enter at a residence on Lakeshore Road in Houghton, Norfolk County.

The theft was reported at about 11 am Thursday.

Norfolk OPP continues to investigate and request anyone who has information regarding this incident to call 1-888-310-1122.

Resident out $500 in scam

A Delhi resident is out $500 due to an online scam.

Norfolk County OPP say the fraud victim sent the money as a deposit for a vehicle listed on Facebook Marketplace.

The seller then deleted the advertisement and their online profile, prompting the buyer to contact police.

Norfolk OPP remind citizens to be vigilant with online private sales, as scam artists often use stolen photos in their ads, ask for money in advance, and then can’t be reached when it comes time to obtain the item purchased.

Police recommend buying high-value items such as vehicles locally, meeting the seller face-to-face and having it inspected by a professional.

Three people charged with assault

Three Dunnville residents are facing a variety of charges including aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and mischief.

Haldimand OPP say the charges are the result of an investigation into a disturbance at about 8:30 pm on August 12 at Central Lane and Chestnut Street in Dunnville.

The accused were held for bail court in Cayuga on Thursday.

Man accused of disobeying order

A 36-year-old Norfolk resident was arrested on two counts of disobeying a court order.

Police say officers stopped and investigated the accused at about 5:47 pm Wednesday, August 24 at an address on Queensway West in Simcoe.

Caller scams senior out of $2,500

A Norfolk victim has lost $2,500 as the result of a fraudulent phone call.

Norfolk OPP were contacted late Wednesday afternoon by an elderly person who had received a phone call earlier in the day.

The caller claimed to be an Amazon representative, telling the victim a $999 charge had been applied to their account.

The caller offered to resolve the issue but said remote access to the victim’s computer was necessary.

As a result of the remote access, approximately $2,500 was withdrawn from the victim’s bank account.

Police remind residents that reputable agencies will not ask for financial information, passwords or remote access unless you have initiated the call.

stolen e-bike

A black-coloured E-bike was stolen between 10:30 and 11:30 am. on Wednesday, August 24 from the garage of a Lee Avenue residence in Simcoe.

stolen guitar

A red and black Epiphone Les Paul guitar was taken from one of two barns broken into at a Brantford Road address in Delhi.

The theft occurred between August 23 and 24.

Police ask that anyone in the area with video surveillance systems to check their footage.

Vehicle stolen

A blue 2006 Buick four-door sedan was stolen during the early morning hours Wednesday, August 24 from a McIntosh Drive home in Delhi

Police say the suspect entered the unlocked vehicle and located its keys.
