A driver who police say tried to leave the scene of a collision after ditching a vehicle on Second Line Road on Six Nations was arrested Thursday afternoon.

Six Nations Police say they were alerted by witnesses who said the driver was “confrontational” with bystanders after the accident at about 3:10 p.m.

Police said witnesses at the crash site denied the driver assistance in leaving the scene so he eventually walked off alone.

The witnesses provided police with a description and officers located a suspect on a nearby property.

Once approached, the man refused to comply with police directions and became combative with an officer.

The 36-year-old Ohsweken man was eventually arrested and charged with impaired driving, driving with an alcohol level of over 80, dangerous driving, two counts of driving while prohibited, failing to stop at an accident, and assault while trying to resist arrest .
