Provincial police in Brant are advising residents to be wary of fraudsters contacting them by phone after a resident lost $12,926.99.

Brant OPP was contacted by the resident on Jan. 21 and told that individuals purporting to be associated with the Bell company had called several times from various phone numbers.

The scammers told the resident about alleged error messages on her TD account related to her internet service to Bell.
The victim, realizing she may have been scammed, checked her bank account and discovered three unauthorized transactions totaling $12,926.99.
Police advised the woman to contact her banking institution immediately and report the incident to the Canadian Anti Fraud Centre.
Fraud is a multi-million-dollar enterprise that will only end when they stop making money.
Brant OPP urges residents to exercise vigilance when receiving unsolicited calls, especially those requesting personal or financial information. Those who suspect fraudulent activity, are asked to contact police, and report the incident to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Center at 1-888-495-8501.

Driver charged after collision
A 26-year-old Paris man faces drinking and driving charges after a three-vehicle collision on Grand River Street North.
The collision took place just before 10:44 pm on Jan. 19. Upon arrival, a Brant OPP officer administered a roadside test after speaking to one of the drivers.
The driver was then taken to Brant OPP detachment for further testing.
Brant OPP have charged the accused with impaired driving – operating a vehicle with more than the legal limit of alcohol in his blood and refusing to comply with a request for a breath test. He is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on Feb. 2.
The OPP is encouraging those who see a driver they believe to be impaired by alcohol or drugs to contact police at 1-888-310-1122 or *OPP (677) on a mobile phone.
