Police arrest man and woman wanted for fraud and assault

Chatham-Kent police arrested a man and a woman wanted on fraud and assault charges.

Police were called about a man and woman canvassing the area looking for concrete work on William Street North in Chatham on Monday.

The woman was wanted for failing to attend court in relation to a September 2023 assault investigation in Chatham and the man was wanted by Chatham-Kent Police Service, Owen Sound Police and Saugeen Shores Police.

A 51-year-old Chatham-Kent man, charged with fraud, was arrested and released with a court date. A 31-year-old Chatham woman, charged with assault with a weapon, was also arrested and released with a court date.

Woman arrested after GPS monitoring device removed

A 55-year-old Shrewsbury woman was arrested and held in custody after a GPS monitoring device was removed.

The woman was released on a conditional sentence in July 2022, police said. She was to remain in her residence at all times, refraining from the purchase, possession or consumption of alcohol or other intoxicating substances, and wearing a GPS monitoring device.

On Monday around 5 p.m., police received an alert from the GPS device.

At about 6:30 p.m. officers found the woman at her residence. She was intoxicated and was no longer wearing the device.
