At the end of January 2024, the police stopped a female driver near Eskilstuna with 15 kilos of hashish in the trunk. In the woman’s phone, the police could see the address of a garage in Sala, where they found another 150 kilos of hashish.
Police are convicted of misconduct
The owner of the garage, a salabo in his 30s, is arrested. But in questioning, he claims to be a police informant, and claims to be innocent of crime.
The investigation reveals that the salabo had chat contact with a high-ranking police officer, and it is suspected that the police, among other things, gave the man one of the policemen’s own protective vests, against the regulations.
The policeman is suspected of having looked through the fingers regarding the salabo’s own criminality in order to get information from him about more serious crimes. When the officers in the field suspected that there was a stash of drugs in the salabo’s garage, the warrant for the house search was delayed, and the designated officer is said to have written in a chat to the other officers: “Remember not to dig…”
The case has been shrouded in secrecy, including several hundred chat messages between the police and the alleged police informant. There have been closed doors for the negotiations in Västmanland district court.
The district court’s verdict in the drug case
Västmanland’s district court sentences the police for misconduct and illegal disposition, to 90 daily fines of SEK 600, which is SEK 54,000. However, he is acquitted of breach of confidentiality, which was also included in the indictment.
The female drug courier and Salabon, who had drugs in the garage, are both convicted of serious drug offences. The penalty for Salabon will be 3 years in prison, and 2 years in prison for the woman.
