Eemil Hallikainen, who fell to the ground past the pole vault mat, is already able to cycle to the sports field for coaching duties.

An 18-year-old pole vaulter who was seriously injured in May Eemil Hallikainen has recovered faster than expected.

Hallikainen’s coach Pasi Pitkänen says that a piece was removed from Eemil’s skull to equalize brain pressure. After the accident, Hallikainen had to spend a total of ten days under anesthesia in intensive care.

Hallikainen has returned home from hospital treatment and is getting used to normal everyday life. Today, Tuesday, Hallikainen went to the sports field.

– Eemil has helped me in coaching. We had training for one young athlete there, Pitkänen says.

By bike to the sports field

Hallikainen hopes to continue pole vaulting in the future. According to Pitkäsen, training is increased one step at a time.

– Today Eemil came from home to the sports field by bike, a distance of approximately three kilometers.

Hallikainen’s recovery has been fast. His company Kaavi kaiku says in its press release that the neurology surgeon characterized the recovery as incredibly fast.

If Hallikainen’s recovery continues well, he will be able to continue his high school studies at the same time as other students returning from summer vacation.
