The missiles designed in Britain reach a height of 25 kilometers. The purpose of the acquisition is to strengthen NATO’s eastern flank.
The European missile manufacturer MDBA has signed deals with Poland for a new anti-aircraft system worth more than two billion euros.
The deals were announced by the British Defense Minister on Friday Ben Wallance.
The British unit of the MDBA company has designed the missiles now being sold, and they are estimated to create around 500 new jobs in the country.
It is the largest arms sale to Poland in British history.
– I am happy that the historically strong defense relations between Great Britain and Poland are taking yet another step, Defense Minister Wallance commented in the press release.
Hit with the precision of a tennis ball
22 anti-aircraft batteries equipped with CAMM missiles are delivered in Poland.
These missiles can destroy both aircraft and missiles that move at a maximum height of 25 kilometers. According to the British Ministry of Defence, they can hit a target the size of a tennis ball that moves faster than sound.
According to Britain, CAMM missiles are already in use in Poland to protect the British forces there and the country’s airspace.
The main owners of the MDBA company are the British BAE Systems and the French Airbus, both of which own 37.5 percent of the company. The Italian defense company Leonardo owns the remaining 25 percent.
Last year, Britain, Poland and Ukraine decided to intensify their military cooperation to strengthen NATO’s eastern flank.
