Poland: coal industry workers and miners demonstrate in Warsaw

Poland coal industry workers and miners demonstrate in Warsaw

Coal industry workers and miners from across Poland converged on Warsaw on Thursday January 9 to demonstrate against the successive closures of power plants in the Silesian mining region. While 60% of the country’s electricity still comes from minerals, the sector generates eight times more jobs in Poland than in the rest of Europe. But European ecological standards are pushing for a forced exit from coal, which worries employees in the sector.
