Coal industry workers and miners from across Poland converged on Warsaw on Thursday January 9 to demonstrate against the successive closures of power plants in the Silesian mining region. While 60% of the country’s electricity still comes from minerals, the sector generates eight times more jobs in Poland than in the rest of Europe. But European ecological standards are pushing for a forced exit from coal, which worries employees in the sector.
