Pokémon GO runs much smoother with 2 settings

Do you want to improve your gaming experience in Pokémon GO a little? Then two small ticks in the settings may be sufficient if you have overlooked them so far.

What are these settings? Both settings are small things, but they quickly become noticeable in everyday gaming when you use them. These settings are called:

  • Native refresh rate
  • Download all content
  • In the recently overhauled settings menu you will find both settings under the item Advanced settings. Then scroll down to Quality. There you can select both settings.

Here’s a brief summary of what they bring.

What do Native Refresh Rate and Download All Content do?

Native refresh rate: This feature was introduced in an update back in late 2021, but if you’re like me you might not have noticed it at the time. I was recently made aware of this setting and have found that it makes the game much smoother and slicker.

If you activate the function, you can achieve a higher frame rate in Pokémon GO. This makes the whole game appear smoother – this extends from the normal wilderness map to the animations when catching to the menus.

However, you should pay attention to whether “unlocking the native refresh rate” on your device may lead to higher battery consumption or faster heating.

Download all content: This function is also useful if you have not used it before. It was introduced in September 2022. If you select them, your game will download all the data it needs in one fell swoop, and then be able to access them directly, rather than having to wait until you encounter them. This can be useful, especially after major updates.

Just as Adventure Smoke came out, some players found that they were encountering bright, glowing balls in the wild instead of the new Galar birds. This was a case where the game had to reload data first.

The advantage: Not only do you get faster loading times when you’re on the go, but you also use less data because less has to be reloaded on the go. But, important: Only use the function when you are in the WLAN – otherwise your smartphone will use your mobile data to pull the data. And that can sometimes be quite large amounts of data.

What does update game data do? If you’re navigating the advanced settings, you’ll also come across the Update Game Data feature under Quality. According to the menu, you should use this if you find inconsistencies while playing.

In fact, this point is exactly the setting that Niantic Support usually recommends on Twitter when encountering game errors, broken data or the like. If you use this function, at least less serious errors should be solved.

What else is going on in Pokémon GO? May is about half over, but there are all sorts of other dates in Pokémon GO this month. All events in May of Pokémon GO can be found here.
