A Reddit user discovered a platinum medal in Pokémon GO that seems almost impossible to achieve. Because it takes a full 12 years to earn the achievement.
What are medals? Medals are special achievements that players in Pokémon Go can earn by reaching certain milestones.
For example, there are awards for distances covered, pocket monsters captured or special actions. Each medal has four different levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum.
Additionally, some of these levels unlock certain bonuses, such as higher chances of success when catching a certain type of Pokémon (via Niantic).
What success is it about? User throwupandaway71 recently posted a screenshot showing a special achievement in Pokémon GO.
The platinum medal is entitled “Ultra Hero”. To earn it, players must defeat Team GO Rocket Boss Giovanni a whopping 50 times.
This may not sound too tragic at first, but, as the user correctly asked, the boss can only be fought in the game every 3 months.
Reddit user g_pelly wrote that he had fought Giovanni every time he saw him since the boss was launched. But with just 21 wins, he hasn’t even reached half of his achievements.
How do you fight Giovanni? To take on the big Rocket boss, you have to use the Super Rocket radar to track him down.
If there are no changes to the 3-month rhythm in which you can challenge Giovanni in the future, players will not be able to get the medal until 2031 at the earliest.
Although Pokémon Go was released in 2016, the big rocket boss only made its debut in 2019.
