Pokémon GO is quietly removing the weekly box

Last minute The world stood up after Putins decision in

In Pokémon GO you have been able to secure the 1-coin box every week for the past few months. But now she’s suddenly gone. We at MeinMMO show you how the trainers react to the loss and want to know your opinion on the subject.

Which box is it? With the restrictions surrounding the corona pandemic, Niantic had introduced a so-called weekly box in recent years. This was always available on Mondays from 06:00 local time in the in-game shop and brought you helpful items for the game.

This should make it possible for coaches to continue playing even if they were not allowed to leave the house due to quarantine or curfews.

But now the box has suddenly disappeared. We show you what assumptions there are about the disappearance and how the trainers react to it.

There is also a survey at the end of the article, with which we want to know your opinion on this topic.

Possible reasons for the disappearance of the weekly box

What happened to the box? Normally, the Pokéminers, a group of dataminers, give a first glimpse of what content the trainers can expect in the next weekly box on Sunday evening. But on August 28th the big surprise – the box is gone.

As the Pokéminers announced via their Twitter account, there will be no new 1-coin box in the week from August 29th to September 4th. So it just suddenly disappeared without any prior notice from the developers.

But some coaches have an idea as to what could have led to the decision and even suspect the events of the past few weeks behind it.

What has happened in the last few weeks? While the weekly box has long featured the popular remote raid passes, this May Niantic changed the contents of the 1 coin box. So the trainers should now be more motivated to go outside again.

Because of this, the long-distance raid passes became more expensive and eventually disappeared from the weekly box. Items that change weekly were then introduced, such as balls, smoke, lucky eggs, incubators or lure modules.

Niantic apparently tried it out here, because the box was getting smaller and smaller. While the trainers initially received at least 3 items for a PokéCoin, in the last few weeks it has only been one item. This drew a fair amount of criticism from Trainers, with many reclaiming the Remote Raid Passes.

In addition, some stated that they would no longer buy the boxes, which is why it was assumed that sales figures were systematically declining. This could be another reason for the possible pulping of the box.

The majority of the coaches find the decision correct

Many trainers were certain that Niantic had to change something in the weekly boxes again. A large part of the reddit community found the few items that were available in the last few weeks very uninteresting, which is why they said they hardly bought the boxes anymore.

So it came as little surprise to these players that Pokémon GO is now drawing the line and no longer offering the box for sale. This is also reflected in the comments on reddit. However, some trainers are now also hoping for an improvement in daily boxing or research breakthroughs in this context (via reddit.com):

  • oceano7: “I’m amazed they pulled the plug before the season was even over. Let’s see what they announce today or tomorrow.”
  • NewFaceHalcyon: “No one bought them, that’s why.”
  • OkKaleidoscope4433: “Honestly it was only a matter of time. Now it’s time to rework either the daily boxes FOR EVERYONE. And to equip them with upgrades or premium items. Or even, and that’s perhaps a little more understandable from a Niantic perspective, to vastly improve the rewards for research breakthroughs. At the very least, this will require some (albeit minimal) effort and is still technically ‘weekly or 7-day’ and should bring in far better resources than is currently the case.”
  • CL-Doviculus: “I kinda hope they ditch the weekly box and instead make the daily boxes useful again… but this time for everyone.”
  • Would it be possible to change the rewards? The trainers have been wishing for some time that the research breakthrough and the daily boxes should become more interesting again.

A few years ago, you could still find legendary Pokémon in the research breakthrough, but these were then replaced by other, less interesting encounters.

And in the daily rewards, the trainers usually only find balls, berries or potions, which they already have in heaps. However, trainers have had luck here in the past and have been able to get better rewards with the help of a trick.

However, a general change would make these boxes more interesting again and trainers would not have to rely on tricks or luck to dust off better items. However, in the past few months, Niantic has made fewer moves to implement new content or bring back the coveted legendary monsters.

Whether the developers will comply with the wishes of the trainers in this case remains to be seen for the moment.

Positive feedback on the weekly box

But there is not only criticism of the weekly box. One or the other trainer found the lure modules very helpful and took them with them because of the low price. These players find it a pity that the box is now gone.

The reddit user Masterjason13 also defends the box and writes on reddit: “Most of them were a good deal. Yes, the long-distance raid passes were way better, but it’s not like it was 1 Poké Ball for 1 coin or anything.”

We want your opinion on the disappearance of the box

As you can see, opinions on the 1-coin box vary widely in the community. While some found the box completely uninteresting and therefore didn’t buy it again, others thought it was a good deal and didn’t miss it.

Now we would like to know from you how you feel about the elimination of the weekly box and whether you would like to have it back. Please feel free to anonymously take part in our survey below:

Whether Niantic will bring back the weekly boxes or whether they will be banned from the game forever remains to be seen. If there is a statement from the developers about this, you can find out about it here on MeinMMO.

Which items would you be particularly interested in in the weekly box? And which items should Niantic definitely not put in such a box? Let us know in the comments here and share your thoughts with other trainers on the topic.

It has not yet been officially determined what content the upcoming season will bring. Trainers have now solved a mystery about the new Pokémon for the Season of Light.
