Pokémon GO is currently testing a new feature – this is Playgrounds

There could be a new feature called “Playgrounds” in Pokémon GO in the future. The first players in the world can already test this.

What is this feature? Niantic calls “Playgrounds” a new AR feature that expands the snapshot function of Pokémon GO.

The idea behind it is that various PokéStops and arenas act as so-called playgrounds. If you visit these locations, you can drop off a Pokémon there and take snapshots of it. It should then interact with the world around it.

The special: According to the current status, your Pokémon remains stationed at this PokéStop for 48 hours, similar to showcases or the current Dyna battles. Other trainers who visit these stops can also drop off their Pokémon there, which will then stay at that location for two days.

If several trainers have dropped off their monsters there, you can also take photos with them. This results in images of entire Pokémon groups with strange Pokémon playing with each other.

At the moment this feature seems to be in a testing phase.

Where is Playground currently being tested in Pokémon GO?

Currently, players in the Pokémon GO subreddit, TheSilphRoad, reported that they received a message that Playgrounds is now being tested in San Francisco.

The first PokéStops are now being transformed into playgrounds where trainers can hand in their Pokémon.

In fact, this is not the first test of this kind. Players in Seattle and Bellevue also reported similar news and tests a month ago (via reddit).

When will the feature come to us? This is still open at the moment, and it is also still unclear when the feature will generally be “officially” released.

What do you think of the feature? Pokémon GO’s AR features are widely received by players. While some people have fun using a camera to transport their Pokémon into the real world and take photos of them, others prefer not to use the AR feature at all. In addition, the AR features sometimes come under criticism due to filming.

We want to know: Would the feature be something for you? Would you like to drop off your monsters at stops to take group photos with other trainers’ Pokémon? Or is that not for you? Tell us in the comments!
