Pokémon Arceus: success or disappointment? The press tests

Pokemon Arceus success or disappointment The press tests

The Pokémon Company is stepping outside the box with the release of Pokémon Legends: Arceus. This new Nintendo Switch exclusive overhauls the formula of Pokémon video games and offers an unprecedented experience, for better and for worse.

[Mis à jour le 28 janvier 2022 à 14h55] A new year begins and a new Pokémon game is released. Pokémon Legends: Arceus is available since Friday, January 28 and is already causing a lot of ink to flow. Expected as a breath of fresh air for a franchise that has been losing steam since the phenomenal success of Pokémon Go in 2016, Arceus has fueled the expectations and desires of many fans of the Japanese phenomenon. Indeed, this new game offers a formula fundamentally different from the Pokémon games released so far, offering a whole new style of gameplay where previous titles were relatively fixed. Combining exploration, action, crafting and classic Pokémon battles, Pokémon Legends: Arceus had everything to restore its shine and its attractiveness to the Pokémon universe. Only, although its innovative experience is penalized by its technical limitations, this is at least the opinion of a good part of the French and international press. We summarize everything you need to know about it

This Wednesday, January 26, the first reviews from specialized magazines fell on Pokémon Arceus. The game received a fairly positive reception overall, earning a score of 86/100 on Metacritic. Journalists and critics hail the initiative of this title from GameFreak studios, offering a formula fundamentally different from the usual (and fixed) recipe for Pokémon games. A success limited by certain defects, in particular on the technical side. If we quote GamesRadar+ : “Arceus is a refreshing take on the Pokemon formula, stripping down the game to focus on our familiar creatures with flair. However, it is limited by its graphics.” This is also the opinion of our colleagues from Gamekult who give it 6/10: “Realizing Arceus certainly doesn’t help. We have to deal with a devastating clipping causing trees and creatures to appear before our eyes in packs of ten.” But the webjournal continues: “The new, much more muscular combat system brings a little more exoticism to a license that has been rather conservative so far.” Critics hail the ambition of this title which is full of good ideas, unfortunately penalized by a sometimes clumsy realization, surprising for a title chaperoned by the all-powerful The Pokémon Company. Nevertheless, the Pokémon games seem to be moving in the right direction.

This is the opinion of The Telegraph. The UK newspaper is full of praise for Arceus, awarding him no less than 100/100. The newspaper describes the game as: “By breaking the textbook and innovating greatly, Game Freak has created the best Pokémon title in quite a while.” Slightly more mixed reviews for Millennium, which still offers him a very honorable 85/100: “Arceus is clearly not the title we had hoped for, but it is definitely worth a look. It is important to note that the outdated graphics greatly spoil the exploration and that the fights against the Monarchs are uninteresting as possible. And yet, it’s a game-changer for the franchise. Its addictive gameplay and innovative mechanics are to be commended.” It is true that expectations were very high for this game whose trailers have voluntarily or not recalled Breath of The Wild. Many have hoped that Arceus would bring as much to his franchise as the last Zelda did to his. However, Arceus seems to miss the mark, in particular because of its largely outdated technical sides. However, it is a step in the right direction for the franchise, and may mark the first hours of the Pokémon open-world.

Nintendo is pulling out all the stops for the release of Pokémon Legends: Arceus. This new exclusive on Nintendo Switch was presented to us a few weeks ago in a trailer of more than six minutes on the Nintendo Japan Youtube channel, before being released this Monday in French. You can find gameplay sequences as well as beautiful images that are reminiscent of a certain Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Indoor footage, beaches, forests and mountains, Arceus has everything it takes to immerse us in the world of Hisui, the ancient region of Sinnoh.

A new trailer and new information about Pokémon Arceus were unveiled on September 28, 2021, this semi open-world will allow us to live our adventure as one of the first trainers in the Sinnoh region, offering us areas to explore and Pokémon to catch. But that’s not all, the world of Sinnoh is full of mysteries and also includes its share of challenges. Among them, we find the noble Pokémon, legendary versions of certain Pokémon, which will have to be tamed by applying balms made with their favorite food in real-time battles. A major challenge for our budding trainers!

The action of Pokémon Arceus takes place in the Sinnoh region, here called by its old name Hisui, where many adventurous players can progress by capturing increasingly rare Pokémon. The story takes place long before the events of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, in a world where the concepts of Pokémon Leagues and trainers are non-existent. You play as one of the members of the Galaxy Expedition, which is based in the village of Jubili. You will meet the members of the three corps of the expedition and different characters there, and will integrate the body of Studies, in order to develop the first Pokédex.

Your character will participate in the creation of the first Pokédex by roaming the wild landscapes of Sinnoh populated by many wild Pokémon. The player will need for this a camp from which he can plan his expeditions by buying or manufacturing objects. During your excursions, you will be able to discover several different biomes, populated by Pokémon with particular characteristics, with which it will be possible to interact. We were also able to see some Pokémon that will serve as means of transport, on land, in the air and on the waves, and aggressive Pokémon that will have to be avoided or fought during fights transitioning from direct to turn-based when you launch a Pokeball. Great novelty, the possibility of modifying the attack modes of your Pokémon during the fights, by transitioning from a Force mode to an Agility mode, influencing in real time on its statistics and its skills.

In addition, the game which was a little disappointed in the first place by the graphic quality of its first trailer, has benefited from improved textures, at least that’s what this new trailer suggests, which presented us with a rich and colorful world. who does not have to be ashamed of a possible comparison with Breath of the Wild. Mountains, deserts, plains, ruins… Everything is there to create a special atmosphere and encourage rich exploration phases. Enough to convince the last hesitant to embark on the adventure.

Despite everything, we will have to wait a little longer before getting our hands on Pokémon Legends Arceus, since its release has officially been set for January 28, 2022 at midnight local time (Thursday to Friday night). In the meantime, if you want to delve into the world of Sinnoh and its mysteries, you still have the two November 2021 releases left, the two remakes of Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl, so wait a few more days and get back in the game. bath before the great adventure Pokémon Legends: Arceus. And for the most impatient, Pokémon Legends Arceus is already available for pre-order, exclusively on Nintendo Switch.
