Point Edward received $421,424 from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) as the village’s third-quarter payment on its share of slots revenue as the host municipality for Starlight Casino Point Edward.
The corporation said in a news release the latest quarterly payment brings the village’s slot take to a total of $1,304,084 since the start of the fiscal year, April 1, 2022.
The latest payment is for the period from Oct. 1 to Dec. 31.
The village has received a total of more than $50 million in slots revenue since the casino first opened in April 2000, the corporation said.
Point Edward has traditionally used most of its annual slots revenue for capital projects, but part of the money also goes into the village’s operating budget
“Payments through OLG’s municipality contribution agreement provide host gaming communities with the support they need to fund programs and critical infrastructure to improve the lives of residents and families,” said Ontario Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy.
The corporation also announced Sarnia received a third-quarter payment of $99,712 as the host of Gateway Casinos Sarnia.
That brings the city’s total slots revenue to $323,244 since last April.
Sarnia has received a total of more than $27.1 million since the gaming site at Hiawatha Horse Park opened in May 1999.
Gateway Casinos Sarnia has 150 slot machines, compared to 494 at the casino in Point Edward.
Both are operated by Gateway Casinos and Entertainment.
