The trial into the attempted extortion and kidnapping of Paul Pogba opened this Tuesday, November 26 in Paris.

According to the investigation, although his brother was not present during this famous evening, he would have exerted pressure against Paul Pogba in order to obtain payment of the sum claimed. Before investigators, Mathias Pogba claimed that he had no intention of putting pressure on his younger brother.
What the accused risk
Presumed innocent, Mathias Pogba risks seven years in prison and several thousand euros in fines. Five defendants are also indicted in this case on the following counts
- “organized gang extortion committed with a weapon”
- “arrest, kidnapping, sequestration or arbitrary detention of a hostage to facilitate a crime or offense, followed by release before the seventh day to prepare or facilitate a crime or offense committed by an organized gang”
- “participation in a criminal association with a view to preparing a crime”.
Already under judicial supervision, the defendants risk up to ten years in prison and a fine of 75,000 to 150,000 euros.
