Margaux Lannuzel: Solastalgia! Sometimes, we can take the risk of making bets on the meaning of the words that we put away in the cupboard, but here, I admit that I have no idea. I will therefore rely on Valentin Ehkirch, journalist in the Sciences department of L’Express. Hello Valentine!
Valentin Ehkirch : Hi !
Margaux Lannuzel : You are particularly interested in topics related to the climate crisis at L’Express. Does solastalgia fit into this theme?
Valentin Ehkirch : Absolutely. This term comes from an Australian philosopher, Glenn Albrecht, a former professor of sustainable development at Murdoch University. In 2003, he developed this concept after receiving testimonies from inhabitants of the Upper Hunter region, in the South-East of Australia, who saw their living environment change due to the exploitation of coal mines. in the open air and who testified to a state of emotional upheaval in relation to what was happening to them.
