Sebastian Julian: Hello Xavier!
Xavier Yvon: Nuclear fusion immediately reminds me of nuclear fission, what is the difference between the two?
Sebastian Julian:Effectively, there are two different ways of producing energy from atoms. We can either break large pieces to make smaller ones, this is fission, ie the technology of our nuclear reactors today. Otherwise, we can assemble small nuclei to make larger ones, this is fusion. We’ve been chasing this merger since the 1950s. The idea is to recreate on Earth the physical reactions at work inside the Sun, and that would be revolutionary.
